Welcome back spring, we’ve missed you! There’s nothing better than seeing the snow melt, seeing fresh grass and blooms and finally being able to start warmer, outdoor adventures. Just like us, our dogs are ready to get out and about too (cabin fever is real!). Now, this might just be us, but we think it would be a great way to celebrate the start of spring with a Dog Pawty with our pups! Who’s with us?! In this post, we’ll be sharing a delicious spring recipe your dog will enjoy and a fun outdoor activity you can do with your pups to start the season!

Pawty Essentials

Every good Dog Pawty needs decorations, right? Visit Etsy, Amazon, or your local pet retailer and find all the pet-themed decorations to hang! You can easily host your own Dog Pawty in the backyard or inside of your home.

To add to the fun, set up some games that your pup will love! If it’s already hot where you are, grab a dog pool or dog sprinkler pad to keep them cool and enjoy some fun in the sun! If your pup isn’t crazy about the water, don’t worry, we’re sharing an interactive outdoor activity you should try next!

Outdoor Activity: Scent Game

Since the weather is warmer and our dogs are already excited to get out and sniff all the amazing smells they’ve been missing, why not turn their experience into the biggest Sniffari ever? For this outdoor activity, you will need the following:

For this game, we’re going to share 3 different ways you can do it, leveling up each time for our super smart dogs and our beginner dogs who are just as excited to learn!

Beginner Level:

With any of the treats shared above, put a treat in one of your hands, close it, and hold both hands in front of your dog, allowing them to smell. Once they find the hand with the treat immediately reward. If they struggle or choose the wrong hand, show them the treat in the correct hand, but don’t reward right away. Invite them to try again and immediately reward when they do.

Intermediate Level:

Leaving your dog inside, grab a handful of any of the treats, shared above (you can even do a combination to keep things interesting!), your shoeboxes/flower pots and spread them throughout your yard. With your treats, fill some (not all) of your shoe boxes or flower pots. Once you’ve filled them, get your dog and invite them to “find it” to discover all of the hidden treats in the yard. Once they’ve discovered them all, praise them and repeat in different areas of your yard!

Tip: If using flower pots, aim for plastic ones to prevent any of them from breaking (you know, due to excitement) and simply place the treat under it so your dog can easily move it aside safely.

Advanced Level:

Leaving your dog inside, grab a handful of any of the treats shared (including their all-time favorite). Start laying a few treats closely together in a row to create a scent trail, leaving their favorite treat for the end of the trail. Once finished, get your dog and invite them to “find it” to discover the full trail. To level this up, gradually increase the space between the treats and/or the length of your scent trail!

Dog Pawty Snack:

Now, a pawty wouldn’t be complete without snacks (every dog nods their heads in agreement)! Our springtime Dog Pawty snack recipe is also going to double as a dog enrichment recipe, since not only do we want to give our dogs a tasty treat, we also want to give them some mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy! For this spring dog recipe, you’ll need the following:

  • • 1 Dog Lick Mat (of your choice!)

  • • 1 Cup Plain Greek Yogurt + 1 Piping Bag (DIY with Ziploc bag or store bought!)

  • • 1 whole banana

  • • Crumps Beef Sprinkles Food Topper

Step 1: Fill your piping bag with your Plain Greek Yogurt.

Step 2: On your dog lick mat, pipe a circle in the middle, this will be your flower center.

Step 3: Pipe your flower petals around your circle (can be any kind of flower you like!).

Step 4: Stick in the freezer for 20 minutes.

Step 5: In a bowl, mash your whole banana

Step 6: Fill your circle and petals with your mashed banana

Step 7: Cover the circle with the Crumps Beef Sprinkles Food Topper to create the color of your flower center (and for a healthy protein boost!).

Step 8: Freeze for 2-3 hours or overnight and give to your dog!

Who’s excited to host their own Dog Pawty? We sure are and we hope we get an invite to yours! If you loved this idea, share this with a friend who would love to do this with their pup and tag us in any photos or videos on Instagram @Crumpsnaturals so we can see all of the fun you’re having with your pups!
